After selling it and going with the Fender, I ended up spending even more to buy a pedal board because I missed the effects I had in the Katana, but the cleans of the Fender were too irresistible. ![]() The Katana had everything I needed at the time to play gigs and get many sounds. Sound wise Id say they were the same, you do get a presence control on the 100 though, the 50 doesnt have a line out socket should you want to beef it up through another amp. The Katana was the best amp I had ever owned, UNTIL I was bit by the tube bug and bought the Deville. Quote from: Marnimay on November 30, 2016, 02:42:32 PM. I bought this with the intention of having it just around the living room as a plug and play practice situation. It was near mint and seems like maybe played only a couple of times. **disclaimer: I HAD a Katana 100 2x12 and really liked it, but ended up selling it off to buy a Fender Deville 2x12. 1 Hey guys, I recently purchased a Katana 50 on Facebook market place for a stupid cheap deal. You don't NEED them, but they are nice to have. The software that comes with it is just icing on the cake, access to way more effects that you can import. The Katana has plenty of onboard effect features already built in that you can access really easily. However I disagree that you ever need to plug your Katana into a computer. The 100 watt 112 combo and Katana 50 watt combo - may use Boss Tone Studio to access Cab Resonance. I ended up buying another one recently and I love it because nothing else worked as seamlessly as the Powercab - they really are made for each other and it shows in the final result.I agree with this post that the GAFC foot controller is a must with the Katana 100 and I would endorse that amp over the Blackstar series mentioned above. Katana MKII - ' CAB RESONANCE ' control ( found standard on Katana Artist) is included on the Katana MKII Head and Katana MKII 212 Combo - but missing on the 100 watt single 12' combo. I actually bought a Powercab Plus years ago from GC but returned it at the time. For a bit more a Fender TM and Roland Blues Cube Stage are also better pedal platforms than Katana imo. Besides for old Roland Cube 60/80 there's Vox MV50 AC also and Quilter have a few also. With anything I recommend buying from a local GC or even Sweetwater (whenever possible) so you can return things you don’t like. There's cheaper, and lighter, backup pedal platforms than Katana 50 imo. There’s also a YouTube video from 5 Watt World where the guy talks specifically about what makes the Powercab such a great match for the HX stomp specifically - you may find his opinions valuable. I saw a video of Pete Thorn trying out the Headrush FRFR’s and he didn’t seem to have many negative things to say but I don’t have any direct experience with them. If I recall correctly, however, the Katana 50 doesn’t have an effects loop so you could try just running a preamp block into the front of the katana on a clean channel (not the acoustic setting) if you haven’t yet and you might get lucky.Īs far as FRFR’s go I’ve found that my preference always comes back to the Powercab Plus, which I know isn’t the most budget friendly option but to my ears it just sounds “right” and I spend more time playing and less time tweaking my gear. Worthy of note was that this did not work equally well for every preamp block - some sounded great and others were less than desirable. Certainly not perfect, but that amp in the room sound was definitely there. The end result was pretty impressive in my opinion. The reason for this was I read somewhere that the Katana actually tried to model an E元4 power section. I disabled all cab sims in the helix and only used preamp models. ![]() I used to run my Helix into the effects loop in of my Boss Katana 100.
